BUYING ADVISORY: EL - ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
This is the story of Temple Grandin's life. Temple was born in Boston and is known for her work for the humane treatment of animals before they are slaughtered. She had autism but when she was small it was misdiagnosed as brain damage. Because of the love and persistence of her mother and Temple's own hard work, Temple went on to be successful in school and in college. She was a wonderful advocate for people with autism.
I believe that this book would be inspiring to young readers who may feel different. Temple accomplished many things in her lifetime and proved that autism should be celebrated and not shamed. There are also suggested activities at the end of the book that would work well in a classroom setting. Temple is presumably white.
