BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL (K-3) - OPTIONAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: LOW
It is time for new shoes, the little girl goes off to the store. Sneakers, dress shoes or boots, how do you choose? Pink polka-dot boots for splashing in the rain, sturdy brown boots for hiking to the peak... The little girl tries on many different types of boots, and with each boot type, the little girl imagines a new and fun setting to wear them. The final choice brings a new friend and many fun dreams.
My Sparkly New Boots is charming and fun. Illustrations are bright, clean, and engaging for the younger reader. Rhyming text goes well with the illustrations, allowing students to imagine and dream as the character tries on the different footwear. Goebel and Morley make trying on new shoes fun, the younger student will enjoy this book. The appeal is low, only a select few would read the book. The main character is Caucasian.
