BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) - OPTIONAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: LOW
Ella, a young elephant, wants to learn to be a ballet dancer. Her friends laugh and tell her that elephants don't dance. Ella decides to take a ballet class anyway. It was hard work and Ella was often frustrated but she kept working at it until she could stand on her tiptoes and spin around. Ella knows what she wants and she chooses not to listen to the discouragement of others. She is persistent and continues to work toward her goals despite the odds being against her.
Ella Learns to Dance is a sweet story but the illustrations, and layout were not very engaging. The main character is an elephant. She attends ballet classes with human children. The children in the ballet class appear to have a variety of backgrounds.
