A Jewish mom and her son talk about how they are going to sit in the sukkah that they have made to remind them that they are part of the Jewish people. The young boy asks if they can turn on the lights that decorate the sukkah. Then they read his bedtimes story and decide to sleep in the sukkah. It rains and the boy cries. The mother comforts him and tells him that the sukkah will keep them safe and warm like it did for their ancestors while they wandered the desert after leaving Egypt.
The Stars Will Be My Nightlight is a gentle, educational book on one of the Jewish traditions of Sukkot. I enjoyed learning about this religious tradition through a tender family story and beautiful, heartfelt illustrations.
