Deborah grows up living in a tent under the shade of a date palm. Her parents are religious and she learns psalms and other laws and scripture. At age five, he discovers she has a unique gift of seeing the future. At age ten she dreams a vision of a war to come. Deborah marries Lapidot who make lanterns and lights. She now lives in a house with her own grove of date palms. She loves to sit under the date palm as she studies the law. Deborah becomes the first women judge in Israel because of how well she knows the law and of her future visions. Many people come to her while she sits under her tree for her wisdom and advice. Israel is preparing for war, and she writes to the General. The general visits her and she tells him what she sees.
Deborah’s Tree is a beautiful retelling of the story of Deborah found in the Torah and the Old Testament. It was refreshing to read about a woman judge in ancient Israel. Enjoyable soft illustrations, both innovative and colorful, envelope the reader.
