12yo Lena is only five and ½ feet tall. As such, she doesn’t fit in in either the giant world or the human world. 12yo Jin is a genie who is bound to a tyrant king. Both have problems that intersect and could have catastrophic impacts on the entire fairytale kingdom.
Lena is a delightful character with a huge talking cat. Jin, as an adolescent learning about the magnitude of power, is engaging as well. The storyline is appealing and well-paced and it’s fun to see familiar fairytale characters pop up. Themes about family, fitting in, and power are weaved deftly together for a fun ride. Definitely the start of a series, but one that should be a fun and fascinating ride.
