14yo deaf-mute Mary receives a letter from her friend Nora, about a girl kept secluded in mansion. She seems to be deaf-mute also, and Nora wonders if Mary could help her. When Mary makes the perilous voyage to meet her girl, the people of the manor stonewall her progress at every turn. While the girl seems to be a wild animal, Mary knows there is something deeper inside. Is there any way she can reach the poor creature?

A companion book to Show Me a Sign – while it might gain traction if a teacher reads it aloud, it won’t gather much student interest on its own outside the deaf community.
