Lotte's Magical Paper Puppets: The Woman Behind the First Animated Feature Film by Brooke Hatman, illustrated by Kathryn Carr
PICTURE BOOK, BIOGRAPHY Page Street Kids, 2020. $19. 9781624149412

BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) - OPTIONAL

AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE

Lotte Reiniger made one of the oldest (possibly the first) animated film. Her life story includes her pictures, her unbelievable hand cut shadow puppets, her escape from Nazi Germany and her return during the war.

The illustrations were amazing - a nice tribute to Lotte's work. I wish the text was not rhyming couplets, it didn't add to the read at all, and I would have liked more detail about Lotte instead. Even the author's note was short. Includes a timeline of some of her films and a bibliography.
