Gladys the Chicken may or may not grant wishes. But situations around her do get very exciting. Follow her from her humble beginnings as the companion to a lonely shepherd, through the Palace of the Purple Poo-bah, and back around to her shepherd.
I needed a second reading to see the charm in Gladys’ story and to succumb to the absurdity of this new “ancient” story. It just gets better with re-readings - especially Gladys’s propensity to plop out an egg in any situation.
