Dugout: The Zombie Steals Home by Scott Morse - ADVISABLE

Dugout: The Zombie Steals Home by Scott Morse, 249 pages. GRAPHIC NOVEL. Graphix (Scholastic), 2019. $13

Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: PG; Violence: PG.

BUYING ADVISORY: EL - ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE

Two sisters are on different baseball teams and the rivalry is fierce. They also happen to be the grand-daughters of a witch. When one sister puts a potion in the other sister’s glove, a zombie appears, followed by a ghost, and they must work together to control the chaos they have unleashed.

I think younger readers will enjoy this graphic novel, even though they will have to just go with the plot and not ask too many questions (why did the potion just bring one zombie and how do you have a potion that casts a spell, etc.). I think the only questionable part was when one of the sisters was possessed by the ghost in order to find the body it belonged in. Possessions are pretty creepy and this might be too much for some readers.
