A young girl of color with purple hair is writing a story with her pencil and then imagines what would happen if the pencil disappeared. If it disappeared, she would tell stories by folding the paper. If the paper disappeared, she would chisel the table and carve the chair. The story goes on like this until all she has is her mind to imagine a story. The narrator concludes that no matter what, she will always create.
I loved the art and the message in this book. The illustrations are a mix of drawing and collage and give a multi-dimensional feel to the book. Without being heavy-handed, this book explores all the ways people can be creative. I am a big fan of communicating to kids that they are creative beings, regardless of their skill levels.
