Roy DeCarava was a photographer.  When his workday was done, he'd grab his camera and take pictures of the people and things that made up his community - Harlem.

I do love E.B. Lewis' art. I feel like I'm looking at 1930s Harlem. However, I can only imagine what DeCarava's photographs must have looked like - and I'm a bit disappointed that none were included. Photographs in the picture books are by other photographers.  Includes a bibliography, timeline, and a list of museums where his photographs are on display.
