A monster is excited that the reader has opened the book. He has been waiting for you and has a surprise. He wants to make a special snack for you his monster friend. He looks up a monster sandwich recipe. It contains buried in mud bread, old socks, ear wax, dry snot, and more. The monster asks you if you want a bite. He is sad when you say no. He eats it himself. Now the monster gets a surprise from the sandwich!
Karsten's story and illustrations are very cute and interactive. The story teaches children what can happen if you don't eat healthy food. I was not pleased with the bathroom language at the end of the book. I was also puzzled that healthy food items weren't referred to when asked what foods the children liked. Instead, only cookies, chocolate, and pasta were mentioned.
