Established by Alexander Hamilton in 1790, the US Coast Guard's original mission was to collect taxes from incoming ships. Today it patrols our coastline and waterways, conducts searches and rescues, escorts ships, manages buoys, investigates pollution and so much more.
US Coast Guard Alphabet Book was informative and well-illustrated with photographs and labeled illustrations. Written with the elementary student in mind, 2 or three short sentences simply define each entry - like diver or buoy, icebreaker, even ship (do you know the difference between a ship and a boat? Now I do!) Pallotta has authored alphabet books about the Army and Marines as well. A great addition to your section about the military.
