When Mr. Connery found that some of his bees had swarmed to a nearby rickety garage, he called Mr. Nelson, a local bee rescuer. Together the two men worked over a long, hot day to transfer the honeycomb and the bees to new frames for a new hive box.
If I taught elementary school, I would snap this book up in a hot minute! Bees are already intriguing and Burns’s book feels even more intimate. My husband keeps bees and I am astounded that Mr. Nelson handles the bees as he does without a bee suit - this whole operation is so interesting.
The people in the photographs are white.
