A boy and his uncle are going on a hike. They will need to pack snacks, binoculars, and a first-aid kit. As they hike up the hill, they see hungry baby birds, play tag together like squirrels, and cross a stream. When they get to the top, they realize Uncle has a blister. Good thing they have a first aid kit!

I enjoyed the simplicity of this level 2 Step Into Reading book with its large, low-level text. I like that it shows a non-traditional family. (The boy, his mom, and uncle live together.) The illustrations are bright and engaging. I did think the close-up foot blister was a little gross and unnecessary. The main characters are illustrated with dark hair and olive skin.
