The Arctic has snow, ice, and ocean. The animals that live there have to find ways to survive. Readers learn about animals that use their white fur to blend in to hide from predators or hunt prey. Did you know musk oxen use their powerful hooves to kick the snow and find food? We also learn that the Arctic Ocean is home to huge whales and tiny zooplankton.
This level 2 Nat Geo Kids reader has quality photographs of animals and their habitat. I liked that the pages were not overly cluttered, and most text was large. I thought that there were too many words for a level 2 reader, and most kids wouldn't be able to read it in one sitting. The text features were good, including "cool word" definitions, photo captions, jokes, and facts.
