Stacey Abrams and the Fight to Vote is a picture book biography introducing the current political figure, Stacey Abrams. Her life is discussed by the angels of former suffragettes watching over her; Sojourner Truth, Ida B. Wells, Septima Clark, and Fannie Lou Hamer. Events from their lives are presented as well, as they discuss the fight for equal voting rights that endured for so long.
I liked the presentation of Stacey Abrams as a bright girl who decided what she wanted to achieve from life and set out to do that. She is an example of courage, perseverance, and dedication for all students. The illustrations show these women so accurately that students will be able to identify them in the future. Stacey Abrams and the Fight to Vote is a picture history book about the crusade for equal access to voting rights in the United States. It is not explicit in any way, but there is mention of the racism and misogyny that has prevented many from being able to vote . These topics raise questions that a child will need a loving adult to discuss with them. Stacey Abrams and the Fight to Vote has a cast of Black American women.
