It was Halloween in the spooky jungle when Jim Panzee and his friends braved the dark to get some treats. Everything looked eerie and Jim kept hearing a strange knocking sound. Jim said he wasn't scared. Then they heard a creepy cackling. Porcupine looked behind the tree and discovered Hyena. Hyena tossed rotten meat for treats to the friends. Something grabbed a hold of Jim. It was Aardvark who gave them bugs for treats. Then they smelled rotten eggs and accused each other of farting, but it was just Polecat who chased the friends away. All of a sudden two glowing eyes flashed overhead. Jim screamed and admitted that he was scared until Aye-Aye revealed himself and gave the animals some fruit for treats. They started to relax until something really scary happened.
Grumpy Monkey: Don't Be Scared is a very fun Halloween read. I found myself anxious every time there was a new noise in the jungle. Suzanne Lang's text was very spooky while Max Lang's illustrations transported me to a very eerie jungle. I would now be interested in reading more Grumpy Monkey books.
