Gnome and Rat live in the Enormous Forest in Gnome's tree stump home. Gnome loves his red coned hat. Gnome is so excited one day because it is his red hat's birthday. Rat teases Gnome that he doesn't remember this special day but then he pulls out cute signs and treats. Gnome sees rabbits disappearing and jumping out of hats using a magic wand. Gnome decides he wants to fit in his hat with magic. He ends up stretching out his hat. While his hat is getting fixed, he tries hair tonic on his bald head and grows a lot of white hair to match his white beard. His hair gets mistaken for many things including a duck's bottom before he gets his red hat back. Then Gnome loses his red hat. He tries buying a hat from a hat salesman but the hat is too silly. Rat kindly buys the salesman's hat. Will Gnome ever get his hat back?
Gnome and Rat is a funny graphic novel for younger kids. The foolish antics of Gnome brings chuckles while Rat seems to have more brains. The illustrations are very humorous, and bring to life Gnomes silly ideas and how much he loves his hat.
