BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL (K-3) - ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH
Squash the cat looks like a squash, takes lots of naps, and is Maggie's very best friend. He helps her get donuts off of the top of the fridge. He makes sure she wins building block contests, and coughs up hairballs on the piano so that she can get out of lessons early. He hides under the table and eats the food she doesn't like at dinner and keeps her warm while she walks the dog. But one day, Squash made a mistake and attacked her new toy tunnel when he thought it was a snake. Now Squash can't eat or sleep. Will Maggie ever forgive him?
Squash the Cat is a fun and creative book about perfect-for-each-other friends who learn that they aren't always perfect, and how to forgive. I was impressed with the expressive, cute, and colorful storytelling illustrations. Kids will enjoy the cat's funny antics.
