Every summer, Sora's grandmother visits and they spend their days at the beach. Sora likes to keep the shells, adding to her collection. Her grandmother always leaves the prettiest for someone else to find. Summer ends and Sora returns to school and is teased about her name. When her grandmother dies, she learns the truth of her name and shares it with her classmates.
I love the beach so this made me feel close to home. When the family learns the sad news, they choose to find healing at the beach. And that's where the meaning of her name is learned. I love that the illustrations depict a loving family and their interactions at different times of their lives.
