Slade writes a two-sided story. One side is suspicious of new kids at school, while the other side encourages kids to be welcoming.
Shown side by side, we see that the texts are inverses of each other.
I see what Slade is trying to do, but the book would have been much better without the negative side at all. Even the title of the negative side is awkward. Marilyn Singer uses this technique so much better in her books of reverso poetry – Follow, Follow and Echo, Echo. The child in the story are a diverse group.
