BUYING ADVISORY: EL - NO
AUDIENCE APPEAL: LOW
The little girl lives in a rickety valley house in the shadow of a pristine house on the hill. The spoiled children in that house tease Mariah about being poor. She runs away into the woods and finds a magical stone that summons the Butterfly Fairy Queen, who makes everything better.
I have read a few celebrity picture books that know what they are doing (John Cena, Paul McCartney), but this one has an identity crisis. Please don’t waste your money on this chaotic mess. The story makes absolutely no sense – skipping from scene to scene with little cohesion and way too many words to enjoy. Shame on whomever gave this the green light.
