AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
Fox and Bear are friends who live happily in the forest hunting eggs and gathering berries. Bear loves to take a nap at noon and watch the sunset in the evening. Fox decides one day that they should come up with inventions that will help them store up more food so they can rest more. The inventions actually make more work for them and bear never gets to take a nap or watch the sunset. Bear is faced with the decision about what is important to him.
Fox and Bear is uniquely illustrated, using recycled paper cut-outs and cardboard dioramas that enjoyably tell the story. They emphasize Korner’s underlying theme of preserving forests. The storyline is cute and helps us realize that a simple life can often be better than a complicated one.
