Mayumi loves to visit her grandfather in his far-off country. Together they create a beautiful sculpted garden and spend hours enjoying its beauty together. When her Ojiichan grows older and needs more help, Mayumi is so sad, for bother herself and her Ojiichan. After giving into her grief for a while, she comes up with a sweet gift for both of them, to help them feel close to each other and to their garden again.
Uegaki’s charming book is a sweet look at the tender relationship between grandchild and grandparent. Could be an important piece to help children adapt as their beloved elders grow older and less able.
