Every Saturday the boy and his grandfather harvest produce and gather eggs to sell at the farmers market stand - even though they are the only ones who still sell. Then come the Saturdays when Papa is too tired to go - the boy decides to go on his own.
Eady has written a love letter to the Black farmer - a group that has shrunk from 14% of the whole to only 2% today. The Pumphrey's illustrations are evocative as ever, helping us to feel the small-town vibe. Eady's optional author's note talks about the artificial barriers that racism created for Black farmers, causing the decline. The characters are Black
