Grandma Josephine was an indigenous rights and water activist. She saw that the Great Lakes were being polluted and the ways of her tribe were being lost, so she started the Mother Earth Water Walkers to draw attention to these issues. Her great-niece, Autumn Peltier, became a vocal leader as a young teenager and continues her efforts now.
"Autumn Peltier, Water Warrior" is written and illustrated by indigenous women. Their love and respect for their cultural heritage and for the Water Walk shines through. Grandma Josephine and Autumn are shown as brave and caring. This book is a call for the reader to think about how are choices affect the world we live in and leave to following generations. The characters are true-life indigenous women. Their culture is displayed carefully in the illustrations.
