BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3) - ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
A child's father is a farm worker. He gets up early and walks many miles in a day, picking and caring for crops in all weather. He is a hard worker and the child is proud of him.
Told in both English and Spanish, Mi papa es un agricola is a gift for the author's father, who explains in the notes that his father gave up his own dream so that Varela could pursue his. Jose Ramirez also pays tribute to his father. His art is full of sunsets and weather - it is evident how difficult farm work is. I loved that this is a positive book, showing how persistent and dedicated they are despite their hardships. The characters are Hispanic.
