A young boy drew a heart that was very wobbly. His sister felt that the heart was like their hips while they danced, and the boy agreed and felt it was a heart like his. Then he drew a heart that was silly, one that was floaty, one like a dream that drifts, one that looked like a brave face, and he found out more about his own heart each time from the comments of his family. What could he find out about himself and nature when he drew a small heart like a whisper?
I enjoyed Sze's new insights on the deep meaning in something as simple as drawing a heart. Stoop's illustrations are beautifully painted on wood and with a soft whimsical feel. The family is Chinese American
