Yoshi the turtle cracks through her egg on a beach in Australia and avoids predators until she reaches the safety of a raft of brown algae in the ocean. When she was five years old she was caught in a net . A fisherman saw her struggling and saved her. For a month, the fisherman tended to her gash and wounds feeding her squid. He brought her to an aquarium in South Africa. They decided to keep her. She lived 20 years in the aquarium until they started exercising her so that she could return to the ocean. They put a tracker on her. People all over the world watched her progress. Where was Yoshi going? She swam 22,998 miles in twenty-six months to Australia setting the record for the longest swim of any animal in history.

Yoshi: Sea Turtle Genius is an exciting, beautiful true story. Cox teaches us facts about sea turtles in her heart-warming narrative. I also enjoyed the pretty, soothing, watery illustrations. I liked the interesting fact sheet at the end of the book for more information. There is mild violence of crabs and foxes eating baby sea turtles.
