BUYING ADVISORY: Pre-K, EL (K-3), EL - ESSENTIAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
This book invites children to be nature detectives. A brief definition for rock, plant, and animal is given and then illustrations challenge the reader to decide, "Rock? Plant? Animal?" Some of the choices are familiar but a few will be new even to the adults.
This book is challenging and would need to be read aloud to the younger grades. This is a non-fiction scientific picture book. The Lexile is higher than many picture books due to the vocabulary required to describe the entries. There is even a glossary at the end. I like the illustrations because they are accurate and help show how nature camouflages itself from predators or prey.
