Ben is a young boy who is exploring a river in a boat. His mother is watching from the shore. Along his journey, he sees many different animals. He sees fish, a bear, a goose, and other animals. But what will happen when an owl hoots and scares the goose?
I enjoyed the simple verse in this book and the engaging pictures. I think young children will enjoy hearing this story. After the story, the author has included a lesson about ecosystems and a small excerpt about each featured animal. A teacher or librarian could use this picture book to teach about or introduce ecosystems. The characters are presumably white.
