BUYING ADVISORY: EL - ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE

Ebenezer Tweezer is almost 512 years old. His secret to not aging is a potion he gets from the beast living in his attic. In exchange for providing the potion, Ebenezer provides an unusual or exotic food that the beast requests, and, so far, Ebenezer has been able to get the beast everything he has requested. Just when Ebenezer begins to think the monster will run out of things to request, he tells Ebenezer that he would really like to try a fat, juicy kid. Now Ebenezer has to find a kid somewhere. He ends up visiting an orphanage and picks the naughtiest child he can find and adopts her. As he tries to fatten her up, much to his surprise, he finds that he is beginning to like Bethany and would rather keep her as a friend instead of giving her to the beast. Can Ebeneezer live without the potion?

Touching story about friendship and family with silliness and pranks, gross stuff, and besting adults. Not my favorite type of humor, but students will find it funny.
