One fall day, squirrel and field mouse discover a round, orange object in the middle of a forest path. They're unsure what it is and as they seek to solve the mystery (chair? table? lantern? pie?), they are joined by their forest neighbors and a party eventually ensues. When a new pumpkin (spoiler alert!) grows the following year, the neighborhood is excited because obviously this means another party is on the way!
I was instantly charmed by this simple and sweet fall story. Anybody who loves pumpkins and stories set in autumn time will love this fun animal story. I love how the ideas the animals come up with about the pumpkin are all pretty logical. You could even turn this into a fun classroom lesson about hypotheses being educated guesses. Overall its a nice addition to a fall picture book collection.
