Special Operations Files: Navy Seals: Mission at the Caves by Brandon Webb - ADVISABLE

Special Operations Files: Navy Seals: Mission at the Caves by Brandon Webb, with Thea Feldman, 119 pages. Henry Holt and Company, 2018. $7.

Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G; Violence: PG.

BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3), EL - ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH

The majority of this book talks about one Navy Seal and his journey to get to active duty. He was a strong-willed teen and started his military training with an iron will. The book goes into detail about what training the men went through to become Navy Seals and then walks through a couple of their actual missions once on active duty.

This is a tough book to recommend simply because of the nature of war. The violence is never gratuitous and it doesn’t take a front seat, but it is there. That said, a lot of our students are interested in the armed services and offering them a glimpse into what is involves is valuable. There was no mention of women in the armed services in this book.
