Make and Upload Your Own Videos by Karen Latchana Kenney - ADVISABLE

Make and Upload Your Own Videos by Karen Latchana Kenney, 32 pages. NON-FICTION. Lerner, 2018. $21.

BUYING ADVISORY: EL  – ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE

book in the Alternator Books: Digital Makers series, this title presents a 12-step checklist for making videos divided into four chapters. The reader learns a little about video genres, tools of the trade, creating a storyboard, camera shots and scenes, editing and sharing. Sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey are featured in a photo, and Mya Reyes and Zach Anner are featured in sidebars. The book ends with a final chapter about staying safe online. It also includes a glossary (with bold words in text), index, and further information section.
This is a solid title to teach students about the features of non-fiction texts or the how-to, active non-fiction genre, in addition to how to make videos. Though it does not cover how to use recording, editing, or sharing technologies, nor suggestions on what technologies to use, this title will definitely inspire interested kids to go for it by giving them a concrete way to make a plan and start on their own creative journey.  If you need to grow your 700 section, this is a good choice.
