The Lumberjanes are going for their theatre badge, both on stage and off. The cabins have been mixed up, and each group is assigned a fairytale to reimagine and present to the camp. Ripley isn’t too excited. She’s more interested in the nest of giant golden eggs. When she and Barney sneak off to look at them, she finds that all but one has hatched, and that one soon goes missing. Ripley and her theatre group set off in search of a band of egg stealing weirdos.
This book moves the needle pretty far on the nonsense meter. I like the idea of scouts, camping and badges. The theatre tie-in works well too, but the egg fascination left me scratching my head. Kids will choose the graphic novel over the narrative version.
