Mason is having a hard time enjoying Kindergarten. She feels like the other students in the class can do more things than her, like tying their shoes. She also is still having a hard time with letters and sounds, not to mention art! Her mom suggests they let her teacher, Ms. Perry, know. Ms. Perry, is able to help Mason see that all students learn at different times and to be confident in herself.
I liked Ahiyya's book because of the message it sends to young kids that are anxious about school. It teaches them how to solve their problems by talking and opening up to adults. It also teaches that if you want something, you need to set a goal and then practice to achieve it.
The students in Ms. Perry's class come from different cultures. It doesn't list them specifically, but some of the names are Xochitl, Reynaldo, and Juan.
