10yo Lucy is excited when she gets a plastic card for her birthday. However, when she takes it to the store to buy a new sweatshirt, she is disappointed to learn it is a gift card, not a credit card. She has to leave the store without the sweatshirt because there is not enough money on the card. Later that evening her babysitter explains to her and her friend what a credit card is and the difference between a gift card and a credit card. Lucy and her friend come up with a new solution help Lucy out of her financial difficulty.
A fun, quick read that teaches kids about the basics of spending and credit. I love that the book introduces this topic to a young audience. The message of saving over spending is also reinforced. There are a few illustrations to add interest as well as a cute comic at the end of the book.
