Mara likes to collect things and knows that everything has a place to be stored. One day she is painting and splashes her friend's dress. Abigail yells at Mara leaving her feeling hurt, sad, and confused. Mara's mom explains that there is a place to store feelings for everyone and shows here the nice little places where her family members tuck away their neat little feelings, but Mara's feelings don't fit. Instead, she ends up releasing other emotions as well and seems to feel this is all her fault. Finally, Mara realizes emotions need to be released.
The illustrations in "A Place for Feelings" are delightful. Geeta Ladi has made a detailed and vibrant world. I liked the ending when Mara realizes emotions need to be released. I didn't like the impression the story gave that everyone else's feelings were presented as neat and tidy by the mom but were actually wild emotions being hidden away. Characters of different races inhabit the streets, and a woman in a hijab is shown.
