Sunny helps her father in his dojang, teaching the younger students how to belt out their “kihaps” until they get so loud that they wake the creatures of the mountains.
I was very surprised when the book took a fantasy turn to the kids fighting monsters in their dojang, until the kids’ growling stomachs startle the monsters away. I was not drawn in by the story or the illustrations, unfortunately. The change to a fantasy was so abrupt, that I was jarred and never recovered. The illustrations feel unpolished.
