Now a woman, every year she pulls out a letter that her Grandpa wrote to her when she was a little girl. His love for her extends to love and reverence for the world around them and the hope that she and hers will be good stewards of the land.
I was very disappointed that a sweet letter from grandfather to granddaughter became a didactic lecture about caring for the earth. I don’t mind books about caring for the earth – I was taken aback that that was the point in a book called Grandpa Christmas. A jarring, unexpected lecture was not what I was looking for.
