There’s nothing special about Burt the June Beetle. He is not the fastest, the strongest, or even the stinkiest. At least that’s what the narrator says. So what purpose could he even have? Spires applies lots of sarcasm to her that’s kind of about insects and a lot about Burt. More of a buddy story than an actual insect book. Would make for a cute read aloud – the sarcasm will go over kids’ heads.
