Zubi is so excited for her first day of school! She has picked the cutest outfit and is all ready - but that morning, she hears her mother mention that her sari doesn't fit right because she is too big, and her sister passes up her favorite breakfast because she is on a diet, and her dad isn't wearing a new shirt because he has gained some weight. By the end of her day at school, Zubi is concerned that maybe her body isn't right, either. But when everything comes out at dinner, her family realizes they have been sending the wrong message, and they each promise to do better.
A good reminder to adults to be careful what we say around our children - that little complaints or concerns can be taken as big problems, especially when they relate to our bodies. A lot happens in just one day - all the negative things at home and at school and then it wraps up too neatly and too quickly. Noor gets her message across, and Nabi H Ali's illustrations are great. The cover is so sparkly!
