Before humans, there were animals, living on a huge rock suspended over a disk of water. Many animals try to find something below the water, but only the water beetle succeeded. Then the eagle dried out the mud, making valleys and mountains all throughout. 

Without the pictures, I would have very confused about this story. The story kind of jerks along, with little transition or explanation. The Cherokee words underneath are interesting, but there is no pronunciation guide, so they might as well be decorations. A much heavier hand by an editor would have been useful.
