Starting in 2007, the country of Norway decided to build a gigantic vault into the permafrost of an island off of their coast - visible from the local airport. What would be inside this vault - seeds! 

Why would they spend so much money to preserve seeds?

Each page contains a bit of back matter to supplement the text and pictures - I love that it integrates well into the story.  And there is more back matter to further enlighten. I had no idea that seeds are such a serious topic. If you have a teacher who could fit this into their curriculum, I would highly recommend you acquire it. Check under the case cover, too.
