Rose lives in Iran with her family, including her Baba joon (grandfather), who is a master rug weaver. When she shows him how she wants to learn, he takes her through the whole process of weaving, working side by side. When Baba joon becomes ill, ROse is worried, but she pours love for him into her rug making.
A celebration of family, a look at an art that most US children didn’t know exists, and includes a nod to natural dyes. Kheiriyeh tells a tender story of love and her illustrations evoke the vibrant colors and style of the famous Persian rugs. I once had my Geography students weave little rugs - i would have loved this picture book to read to them.
