Each day that Clara retrieves dirty laundry and returns clean laundry to the man, she wonders why he never leaves his house. She was taught to read by her grandmother and she always gazes fondly at the books she sees through the window. One day they start a conversation, and then a friendship, with him loaning her books and then one day inviting her in.
Trach’s illustrative style is so different from what I am used to, I want to own the book just for that. Andruetto’s story is more one that an adult will enjoy more than a child, so it would have to be read to children.
Clara is from Argentina.
