Kai moved around with his Pa never staying long in one place. Pa said that they could stay a year at this new place full of pools of water. He had a favorite stone that he always put on top of a stack of stones at every new home. Kai tried to invite other children to play with him, but they just laughed when they didn't understand his language. In frustration, he kicked his treasured stone into a pool of water. He dived in to search for it, when he found something even more valuable.
Between Words is a whimsical story of how to find friendship by communicating without words. I enjoyed the tender story and radiant illustrations.
